There Is Nothing Wrong With You

I didn't write this book because I believe people need fixing. I wrote it because I have spent decades meeting extraordinary people who believed they did.

Again and again, I watched thoughtful, compassionate, capable human beings carry the quiet conviction that something about them wasn't enough.

I wanted to offer another possibility. What if there is nothing wrong with you? What if the stories you've inherited simply aren't the whole story?

As I met with people over the years, I paid attention to their struggles and their victories. The struggles were always about "shoulds"; the victories always came when they let go. In time, I realized I had made lots of notes about what I had observed — in spiritual gatherings, in college classrooms, on retreats, in one-on-one conversations, and in deep, powerful encounters. I saw themes in the notes and in my own growth toward more and more freedom. I began to shape these insights into my Story Healing practice, and I believed these insights could help people beyond the amazing transformations that were taking place in my sessions with friends and clients. And that's where this book came from.
